Inspiration is birthed in odd and unexpected places... -SOLD London-

Inspiration is birthed in sometimes odd and unexpected places... Animals are not my thing.I decided to give it a try. I used a poor photograph. Actually it was just a portion of a photograph as I opted to omit the rider and context. I focussed upon the head of the horse. Keeping it relatively simple was the goal. The piece was loosely sketched with a hard charcoal pencil. The Bridle still partially in "Sketch Mode". Then I changed to a medium and soft charcoal. I limited myself to these two pencils.

I was interested in exploring both an animal shape that I was painfully unfamiliar with as well as the implied movement. This was done by both the strident pose, the hair and the angle of the nose. The gaze of the animal I believe also supports the feeling of motion.

This unfinished "end" result is 24 x 36 " on medium tooth paper.

SOLD- To Private Collector-
